The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)provides a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants belonging to certain religious minorities (Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians) from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who entered India before December 31, 2014.

Eligibility

- Date of entry into India: Must have entered India on or before 31December 2014
- Nature of stay: Must have entered without valid travel documents or stayed beyond the permitted period (i.e.,considered undocumented imigrants)
- Residency requirement: Must have lived in India for at least 5 years before applying for citizenship
- Exceptions: The Act does not apply to certain protected tribal areas (e.g., Sixth Schedule areas) and regions under the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system
