Scheme - Jai Johar Scheme (Old Age Pension for ST Communities)

Jai Johar Scheme is a social security initiative launched by the Government of West Bengal to provide monthly financial assistance to elderly persons belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. The scheme aims to ensure income security, dignity, and improved quality of life for aged citizens who have limited or no regular source of income.

Implementation

  • The scheme is implemented through district administrations, local bodies, and welfare departments with support from Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies.

Eligibility

  • The scheme is targeted at elderly persons belonging to Scheduled Tribe communities. Eligible beneficiaries generally include:
  • Individuals belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
  • Residents of West Bengal.
  • Age of 60 years or above.
  • Economically disadvantaged individuals with limited or no stable income.
  • Not receiving similar pension benefits under other major government pension schemes (as per applicable guidelines).

How to apply / process

  • The applicant submits application form to the Gram Panchayat, ULB or designated office.
  • Required documents such as age proof, caste certificate, identity proof and bank account details are submitted.
  • Verification is conducted by local authorities and welfare department officials.
  • Eligible applicants are approved and enrolled under the scheme.
  • Monthly pension is sanctioned and disbursed.
  • Funds are transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account through DBT.
  • Regular monitoring and updating of beneficiary records is carried out by authorities.
