Scheme - Soil Health Card

The Soil Health Card scheme provides farmers with soil health cards detailing the nutrient status of their soil and recommendations for appropriate fertilizer use. Its objective is to promote balanced and judicious use of inputs, thereby improving soil fertility, crop productivity, and farmers' income in a sustainable manner.

Benefits Offer Under the Scheme

  • Provides farmers with Soil Health Cards every two years, showing the nutrient status of their soil.
  • Offers crop-wise fertilizer recommendations, helping farmers apply the right type and quantity of nutrients.
  • Promotes balanced and efficient use of fertilizers, reducing input costs.
  • Improves soil fertility and sustainability by preventing overuse or misuse of chemicals.
  • Enhances crop yield and productivity, leading to better farm outcomes.
  • Supports higher farmer income through optimized input use and improved production.
  • Encourages environment-friendly farming practices by maintaining long-term soil health.

Eligibility

  • All farmers are eligible for the scheme, including small, marginal, and large landholders.
  • The scheme covers both individual farmers and institutional landholders.
  • Farmers must have legal access to cultivable land (owned or leased) to receive a Soil Health Card.
  • The scheme is implemented nationwide, so farmers from all states and union territories can benefit.
  • Soil samples must be collected and tested from the farmer's land to generate the card.
  • There is no specific income or age restriction, making it accessible to all farming communities.

Application Details

  • Farmers do not need to apply separately; soil samples are collected from their fields by government officials or designated agencies at regular intervals.
  • The collected samples are tested in soil testing laboratories to assess nutrient levels.
  • Based on the analysis, a Soil Health Card is prepared with crop-wise nutrient and fertilizer recommendations.
  • The card is then distributed to farmers through local agriculture departments, panchayats, or camps.
  • In some cases, farmers can also register or check details online via the Soil Health Card portal.
  • The entire process is free of cost and facilitated by the government to ensure wide coverage.
