The Medhashree Scheme provides financial assistance to meritorious students from Other Backward Communities (OBC) to support their higher education. It aims to reduce dropout rates by offering scholarships and incentives to help talented students continue their studies without financial hardship.
Benefits Offer Under the Scheme
- Annual financial assistance of Rs 800 per student.
- Renewable yearly benefit through the schooling period (up to Class VIII).
- Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of the amount into the student's bank account.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal.
- Must belong to the OBC category.
- Must be studying in Classes V-VIII in a government, government-aided, or government-recognized school.
- Annual family income should generally not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh.
- Student should not be receiving any other similar scholarship.
- Must have a valid bank account.
Application Details
- Students are identified by school authorities (Headmaster/Headmistress).
- School submits student details on the official portal.
- Application form is filled (online/offline) with basic details.
- Required documents are submitted, including caste certificate, income certificate, Aadhaar, and bank account details.
- Verification is carried out by the school and the concerned government department.
- Upon approval, the scholarship amount is transferred directly to the student's bank account through DBT.
