Scheme - West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme

The West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme provides students with collateral-free loans of up to 10 lakh to support education from class X to post Doctorate in India or abroad. The scheme offers low interest rates and flexible repayment options, enabling financially disadvantaged students to pursue academic and professional courses.

Benefits Offer Under the Scheme

  • Collateral-free loan up to Rs 10 lakh for education from class X to Post Doctorate
  • Low interest rate (~4% simple interest per annum)
  • 1% interest concession on timely full repayment inclusive of moratorium period
  • Repayment tenure of up to 15 years
  • Moratorium period: course duration+ 1year
  • No margin money required for loans up to Rs 4 lakh
  • Covers fees, hostel, books, laptop, and study materials expenses
  • Online application process for easy access and transparency
  • State government guarantee/support for wider accessibility

Eligibility

  • Must be a resident of West Bengal for ten years or more
  • Must be 40 years or below at the time of application
  • Must be enrolled in a recognized educational institution (India or abroad)
  • Should have completed at least Class IX (Madhyamik or equivalent)
  • Must have secured admission in an eligible course (school, UG, PG, or professional)
  • Co-borrower required (usually a parent/guardian)
  • Applicant or Co-borrower must not be in default of any bank loan
  • Only one student credit card per student is allowed
  • Must apply through the official online portal with valid documents

Application Details

  • Register on the official WBSCC online portal and receive an Application ID
  • Fill in the application form with personal,academic,and course details
  • Upload required documents (ID, admission proof, address, etc.)
  • Submit the application
  • Application is verified by institution and Higher Education Department
  • Upon approval, the application is forwarded to the bank
  • Bank conducts final verification and sanction of the loan
  • Loan is disbursed to the student's account/institution
