Potato Procurement and Storage Status

Potato Procurement and Storage Status

  • Procurement Price: Under the West Bengal Government's potato procurement project, potatoes are being procured at cold storage facilities at a minimum price of ₹950 per quintal.
  • Operational Scope: The procurement process has been launched across all districts through numerous cold storage cooperatives, and several private cold storages have already begun operating under this scheme.
  • Projected Growth: The volume of procurement is expected to increase as the potato harvest progresses.

Storage Capacity and Management

  • Current Capacity: As of March 10, 2026, only 12% of the total storage capacity of 8.2 million metric tons has been utilized, leaving ample space for further stock.
  • Supervision: The storage process is being carried out smoothly and is monitored at both the Block and State levels.
  • Farmer Protection: The State Government has issued a notification reserving 30% of storage space specifically for small and marginal farmers.
  • Farmer Participation: Interested farmers are actively taking advantage of these opportunities.
  • Additional Outlets: Furthermore, 'Sufal Bangla' is collecting potatoes in all districts at the minimum procurement price.
